Meet the producer

Pierre Millemann grew up between Anjou and Alsace. From a young age, his father and grandfather, both passionate about wine and lovers of fine bottles, instilled in him their love for this world.

After starting his studies in Paris, Pierre had a pivotal encounter with René Renou, an influential figure in the wine industry, during his first internship. He quickly became Pierre's mentor. Fascinated by the winemaking process, Pierre realised that he needed to focus first on the terroir.

He then decided to spend a year working in the vineyards and cellars, first in Germany, then at Château Carbonnieux in Pessac-Léognan, and finally at Charles Heidsieck in Champagne.

To deepen his knowledge, he resumed his studies and obtained a BTS in Oenology in Champagne, followed by a National Diploma in Oenology in Dijon, Burgundy. He continued to gain experience by holding various positions across several regions of France. It was in the Jura, where he worked as a cellar master, that he met Stéphanie, a student in a sommelier course who would become his wife and the mother of their daughter, Charlotte.

The Estate’s philosophy

In 2003, drawing on their respective experiences and the very positive results achieved with their partner estates, Pierre and Stéphanie decided to establish their own consulting company in oenology.

Always in search of new techniques, Pierre furthered his education with a Master's in Oenology Research in Dijon and taught future oenologists at the University of Burgundy as a temporary professor. Today, the family collaborates with the best estates in Burgundy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. Recently, his daughter Charlotte joined the family business and is training alongside her father.

After more than two decades of consulting, Pierre launched his own brand in 2017, dedicated to producing unique pieces from the greatest Grand Crus of Burgundy (primarily focusing on the Côte de Nuits).

Although his portfolio has developed slowly over the years, his iconic wines under the Millemann signature represent not only incredible rarity but also demonstrate a unique set of winemaking skills that guarantee exceptional quality.

The estate produces internationally renowned Premiers and Grand Crus, such as Chambertin Grand Cru, Bonnes Mares, and Corton-Charlemagne.

Regarding winemaking, the white grapes are crushed and pressed, and no sulfur is added before malolactic fermentation. Pierre emphasises the need to wait for the lactic notes to fade, as adding sulfur too quickly at this stage risks locking in the diacetyl component, which can be unpleasant later in the wine. The cooperage used (for both colours) is usually Tonnellerie Damy in Meursault, with whom Pierre Millemann has been collaborating for several years to develop the optimal toasting level.  For the red wines, he prefers to use a significant percentage of whole bunches, provided that the stems are of good quality, depending on the vintage.
